For you – whether Poolside or Stuck Inside
Jeremy Ben-David, Founder, Managing Partner
It’s midsummer, at least here, in the northern hemisphere. The days have just started getting shorter, but the summer heat has settled in and will be with us here in Israel through August and September. Schools have finished for the year and everyone is focused on vacations; either those that are taking or those that they can only dream of. Someone still has to work, even if it’s summer, and time for "les grandes vacances."
A favorite way to relax is with a good book. For the younger generation, the difference between a book and a movie is that by reading words and sentences, your brain conjures up the pictures of the story, whereas, when you see a movie, your creative thoughts are switched off. After all, the picture is in front of you. All you have to do is look and listen. If you are participating at all, the experience is a passive one.
The question of how much we engage our minds in what we do has never been so critically important as at the present time, when AI threatens to totally neutralize our ability to think for ourselves and to process ideas and data. This is different from software, which merely provides a way to perform calculations faster. AI threatens to provide not just data-based answers, but also to tell us how we should view the data, and even how to feel about it! In my article entitled “There is NO AI for This” I advocate using AI sparingly and, as legal professionals, specifically when working for our clients. Adoption of AI to analyze and draft legal product, where the word is king and is used to represent very specific ideas, will, in most cases, prevent us faithfully representing our client’s best interests. Read my article and then let me know if you disagree. I’ll be happy to hear from you.
In sharp contrast to my discussion of what one could describe as intellectual health, in the latest episode of our Israeli Technology Founders Speak podcast, Avraham meets with Avner Spector who founded Curespec, a pioneering Israeli startup focused on transforming kidney health through non-invasive medical technologies, in 2020. Curespec’s mission is to provide life-changing, non-invasive solutions for chronic kidney disease and hypertension.
So, whether your preference is to engage your mind through reading or listening, and whether it’s from poolside or behind a desk, I hope you find our current offerings of interest.
To our northern hemisphere friends, I wish you an enjoyable summer. To our friends for whom it is currently midwinter, stay warm. And all should stay healthy and safe!
